What is eMas Sabah?

eMas Sabah is the electronic community of the people of Sabah. With this project, we hope to provide the means to network the communities in Sabah using the Internet, providing the public with community information and a way for the community to communicate electronically.

The British Library Association defines community information as:

"Services which assist individuals and groups with daily problem-solving and with participation in the democratic process. The services concentrate on the needs of those who do not have ready access to other sources of assistance, and on the most important problems that people have to face, problems to do with their homes, their jobs and their rights".

Indeed, we hope eMas Sabah will provide a channel through which the needs of the Sabah population can be addressed and as a means to build solutions to its problems.

eMas Sabah stands for Masyarakat Elektronik Sabah or Sabah Electronic Community in English. eMas Sabah will be the electronic home for the communities in Sabah. The name (which can be translated from the Malay to mean Sabah Gold) also reflects the wealth of human resources that can be found in the state of Sabah, comprising people with hearts of gold who have formed the various organizations that aim to help society. We hope all organizations will come together to make this truly the home or gathering place for the Sabah people.

Like other electronic communities on the Internet, eMas Sabah will operate from a homepage on the Internet. The address for the homepage is http://www.sabah.org.my.
