There
is no dearth of restaurants and eateries for food connoisseurs in this
beautiful city, Kota Kinabalu. In fact, there are so many of them that
these food experts can go around and still find another place in another
place in another corner of the city, where the food is exquisite and the
company, pleasurable.
One
such place that should really be visited is the YS Western Food outlet
located at Lintas Plaza, right across the Government Clinic.
There
is something interesting about this outlet though ; you may be fooled if
you don’t look carefully.
This
outlet operators like Chinese coffee shop during the day. You have your
fried noodles and rice, your kon lau mien, kai fun and mee soup.
But
from 6am to 11.30pm, you will fell like you have been transported to a
café with musicians entertainingly you from somewhere inconspicuous.
Actually the coffee shop does not have a gadget to transform the area
into this setting but the food sure will.
This is
because they serve typical western food and then some. You can start
your dinner with the mains. They are mainly lamb, beef, chicken, fish
and pasta, among others.
To
start with, get the grilled lamb. The grilled lamb at YS is very
succulent; seems like the chef have found a secret to grill
lamb without
drying it at the same time. The grilled lamb comes with your
choice of sauce. They include mint, black paper, salsa, mushroom and
garlic sauce. Then you move on the beefsteak. The beefsteak here
is delicious to say the least, as you feel like you are really sinking
your teeth into thick meat and not some dried up flap of leather
pretending to be meat.
Believe
me, I know ; I have bitten into some people’s lovely idea of meat.
The beef
also come with your choice of sauce such as black pepper, mushroom and
garlic.
Don’t
forget to try the fish. You can either take the typical fish and chips
or you can order the grilled salmon. The grilled salmon wins hands down,
where choice is concerned, though.
If you
really love pasta and have to have this dish, order the spaghetti
Bolognese. You can opt for beef and chicken. And of course don’t forget
to order their fresh oxtail soup.
For
those who have children, you can order them a yummy menu, which comprise
of chicken wings, crab core, French fries and coleslaw.
If the
kids want something a little heavy, you can order them the kid’s menu
version of the grilled lamb chop and the deep fried chicken.
After
the meal is done and you settle down to a nice pint of bitter, you can
order from the ‘side-order’ menu. They have chicken boxing, French
fries, coleslaw, Russian salad, gulden salad with mayo or golden salad
with thousand island sauce.
As for
drinks, they offer an assortment of beverages; orange juice, apple juice
watermelon juice, carrot juice, orange mix, honeydew and coconut water
the works.
Outlet
manager Jin Yong invites customers to try out their western fare,
uniquely served on a Chinese coffee shop. This unique setting is an
identify endemic to Sabah, a land of diverse ethic groups, culture and
traditions, she says, adding that it also shows that dining on western
food does not require one to be seated in a formal settings.
Enjoying food in a comfortable and friendly setting is very important,
according to her and as such YS western food outlet is the best place to
go for a relaxed evening with friends and family.
We also cater to small private social function such as birthdays. Our
customers need only come in and talk to us, she says, adding that the
coffee shop’s capacity is 70 people.
So if
you have some overseas tourists who wants to dine on familiar food, that
is value for money, visit YS Western food at Lintas Plaza and enjoy the
fare Jin Yong and her team of workers offer.
