
If
everything goes well, the Kota Kinabalu Diamond Jubilee Celebrations marking
75 years of scouting in Kota Kinabalu, the Sabah State Capital City, is
set take off officially on the 7 March 1998 at one of the leading
shopping complex in Kota Kinabalu by the Chief State Scout cum Chief Minister
of Sabah, Y.A.B Datuk Yong Teck Lee. All Scouts within the region is advised
to get ready for this historical event.
The chosen theme for the celebration is "Scouts - Builder of Excellent Generation" (Pengakap Pembentuk Generasi Cemerlang) reflecting the success stories of the scout movement in Kota Kinabalu since 1923.
Some of the itenerary of the Launching ceremony includes the launching of the Official Logo, choir by the 1st Kota Kinabalu Scout Troop singing the Official Theme Song as well as public exhibition about the scout movement for the past 75 years.

Celebration is the Diamond Jubilee Camp which will be held on the 11-14
May 1998 at the All Saints High School Field, home of the 1st Kota
Kinabalu Scout Group, previously known as 1st Jesselton.
Any scouts who is interested to participate in this camp or who would like to know more about this camp please email to echohome@tm.net.my to get the Participation forms. Camp fees is at RM20.00 for scouts and RM25.00 for Scouters. |
In conjuntion with this year's Scouts Day, the Kota Kinabalu District Scouts is going to organise a "Beach Cleaning" campaign to create environmental awareness among the public. This also shows that scouts do community work. The Crew will be having it 3rd Annual General Meeting on the 20 February 1998 at Farida's Bed & Breakfast beginning at 7.00 pm. All members are urgedto attend. |

About 30 boys and girl scouts took part in the annual War Victims Remembrance Day held at the Petagas War Memorial on the 21 January 1998. Most of the War victims perished during WWII while defending the State from the Japanese occupation. - Report by Tariq |
