BIMP-EAGA Jamboree 2000 starts the new Millenium
The BIMP-EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philipines East ASEAN Growth Area) Jamboree 2000 which
was held on 28 May - 4 June 2000 at Kem Matang, 20 km from Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia was attended
by some 5,000 Scouts from the ASEAN Countries as well as other countries such as New Zealand,
Netherlands, Maldives and South Korea. The Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) or the Governor of Sarawak
officiated the Jamboree. Sabah was presented by more than 300 Scouts and leaders, the largest contingent
besides the host. The Crew itself was represented by six members namely Tariq, Farouk,
Viviana, Rahayu, Fung Yee and a new member, Trinil. Tariq and Farouk however were appointed as
the Contingent Committee members.
The Jamboree generally was well prepared except for a few hitches. Had it been for a more adequate
bus services, the distance between the camp sites, secretariat and offices accommodation would not
have been felt. Activities during the Jamboree too were very challenging especially the grueling
challenge valley which need two hours to complete. The presence of motor vehicles within the camp
site was however unfavoured by many. Nonetheless the Scouts had fun and look forward for the next
