Disaster Response Training latest
FHIM initiated the Kota Kinabalu Basic
Disaster Response Training (DRT) programme at Outward Bound Sabah(OBS)
from 2-5 March 2009.
This programme is conducted in collaboration
with Crisis Relief Services & Training Malaysia (CREST) and OBS with
assistance from Fire and Rescue Department and Police Department.
The objectives are :-
- to provide an overview and
understanding of disasters
- to provide some basic skills
training related to disaster response efforts
- to select and form a protem
committee for the proposed Kota Kinabalu Regional Rapid
Response Team.
The training programme covers areas of
disaster management, international code of conduct ,incident command
system,1st responder Triage, mobile medical clinic ,counseling to the
traumatized, water rescue, personal survival skills and personal
preparation for disaster response.
The programme was a success with 60
participants for a start. The feedback was that the participants
enjoyed the challenges and benefited from the course
and is prepared to serve in time of crisis. An advance training
course is in the pipeline
