What is a Kiwanians?
An individual of good character who adheres to the standards of good conduct in a community and believes in and subscribes to the Objects of Kiwanis International. The individual believes in giving primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than the material values of life; believes in treating other human being as the individual would like to be treated in all human relationships; believes in the promoting the adoption and application of higher social, business and professional standards; desires to develop by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship; believes in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill; and the individual desires to provide through this club a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build a better community.
In Good Company…..
Well over 300,000 Kiwanians in more than 8000 clubs serve in 71 countries around the world. In today’s high school and colleges, key Club International and Circle K are among the largest, if not the largest people serving organization designed for young people.

HOW WAS IT STARTED?
On June 19th, 1991, Ms Nolly Lim, Field Service Representative for South East Asia of Kiwanis International came to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. She contacted Frederick Chin through the introduction of Miss Pauline Tan with the idea of setting up a Kiwanis Club in Kota Kinabalu. A luncheon meeting was held on 20th June 1991, where Ms Nolly Lim spoke about the Kiwanis movement to those who turned up. She also distributed materials and information to those present about the Kiwanis organization.
Subsequently the 1st organizational meeting was held on 13th September 1991 and a Protem Committee was elected with Kwn Frederick Chin as its Protem President.
On 26th August 1992, exactly a year after this, the Kiwanis Club of Kota Kinabalu was chartered under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club of Chang Hua, Taiwan R.O.C. The Charter President was Kiwanian Alex Chung. |
