Yong Granted Stay Of
Execution, May Re-contest In Likas By Election

July 4 (Bernama) -- The High Court here Wednesday night granted the
application of former Likas state assemblyman Datuk Yong Teck Lee for a
stay of execution of the judgment of the Election Court which held that he
had breached the Election Offences Act. Sandakan-based Justice Datuk Richard Malanjum, who presided over the hearing in chambers, made the ruling after hearing submissions from the petitioner's and respondent's counsel. "After having given due consideration to the arguments of the learned parties, I'm of the opinion that the objection on the ground of functus officio has no merit and overrule it," he said. |
