In complying with the Act of Parliament, P.U. (A) 348 Akta (Perbandaran) St. John Ambulance Malaysia 1971 was implemented in 1973. Sabah is now regarded as one of the states in Malaysia and is governed by the Act of Parliament. The organisation is currently headed by a State Commander who is also the Chairman at state level. he is assisted by a team of state staff officers with specific duties. The state headquarters is now located at the Voluntary Service Complex at Jalan Tuaran in a building provided by the State Government, in 1986. The previous headquarters building is now being maintained by an Area Commander supported by area staff officers. This area is known as Pantai Barat Selatan. In addition to this, today we have several areas functioning quite independently under their Araea Commanders.
